Gentlemen,
I am directed by the Secretary of State for War
to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 5th inst: and with regard thereto to acquaint you that owing to the urgency of the case 6 (six) .303 inch Maxim Guns have been
and they issued from store for the Hong Kong Volunteers, were despatched in the S. S. "Ixicon" which sailed on the
6th instant.
The 6 (six) .45 inch guns received from Hong Kong will on completion at conversion be taken over by the
the cost of conversion and necessary Imperial Government
repairs being charged to you.
I am at the same time to say that credit will
be given you for the value of the parts of the .45 inch guns as are found serviceable and fit for use in the con-
version.
